undies: Favourite Print Ads

I just wanna say thanks to the people who have commented in here! and thanks for the useful links to Advertising Linguistics etc.

Anyways I have a question for everyone.
What are two of your favourite print ads out there at the moment?
Whether its from Magazines, Billboards, Posters whatever?
whats some of your favourites floating around town?

I think the Carpet Court ads are the worst on TV. They even manage to be more annoying than the Sultana Bran and Just Right ads.

Anyone else hate those ads or can think of other incredibly annoying ads on TV at the moment?

shoujo_mallet: VH1’s 25 Greatest Commericals

Recently I had the displeasure of watching VH1’s 25 Greatest Commericals. Though it’s great to see a clip show about commericals, I can’t say I was pleased with the choices.

The one that upset me most was the Budweiser “Whazzup” commercial. Sure the catchphrase entered everyone’s lexicon, but Budweiser sales fell. Sure it was amusing, but it’s efforts to be a man’s beer only made it target for ridicule by showcasing stupidity.

“Whazzup” won tons of awards, but like I said Budweiser sales fell. The problem with this ad, and many others on the VH1 list, is they are very creative but do little in the way of producing sales. Why should the novelty of an ad be more important than it’s sales potential?

A viewer complied list of the 25 “greatest” commercials can be found here.

undies: HP digital photography

The new 30sec TVC for HP and their digital photography plug works really well.
I think it's 'The Cure' they are using for the background music, but I love the way the camera zooms around the locations and everything appears to be made up of photographs. Theres a nice little touch towards the last 5 seconds where a small boy places all his photographs standing up and a table, they camera zooms down to the same level as the photographs and fills in the blank spaces to make the orginal shot the ad started with.

So yeah just another successful ad in my opinion, what do you guys think?

If your struggling to get through the day and need something to get your body grooving again.
Log onto www.stealthdisco.com and get down with ya BAD self!

Basically something I came across online that a Ad Agency in Chicago put together as a bit of a joke. It's now turned into an internet phenomenon...

wish my office had that kinda fun going on....

memoryofpetals: Introductions

I'm a 21 year old student at Western Michigan University, majoring in advertising and promotions. I'm a member of the ad club, this week we're having John Chickering who's speaking on his book, How to thrive in Advertising, after you get the Job!. Last week we spoke with BBDO hiring people, but it was mostly on how to dress/talk in an interview. I'm studying/working abroad in London next fall and eventually i'd like to be an art director.

Is anyone else here planning on going into advertising?

undies: .....REJECTED.....

A little off topic but I just have to say.... how angry would you be if you met someone from Overseas (lets say 3.5hr flight) and you got home and talked to them on the phone every day since you met. Then she came over for a week with you. One month later you spend a week with her overseas, then she decides to move to your country. You both plan to live together, then decide its too full on to move in together. She sends you flowers from O/S to your work. Sends you cards that express how she feels and how she loves you. You believe this is the first girl that really loves you! You clean out half your wardrobe so she can move in for two weeks until she can work out accomadation. You pick her up from the airport, go out to dinner together. Make love. Get up the next day have breakfast together on High St. Catch the tram into the city to get her mobile phone set up and meet her friend that lives on Elizabeth st.

She then decides to tell you she doesn't want a relationship!
god life sucks sometimes.

(sorry for the off topic but felt like posting)
